William Russell Porter

Russell Porter, 91, of Lewisburg died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday at the Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville, Ky. after a brief illness. The life-long Logan County native was the son of the late William Herschel Porter and Rachel Dillon Porter, and the husband of his late wife of 69 years, Juanita Gilliam Porter. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Porter Thomas. He was chairman of the Mt. Pleasant cemetery board, and a member of the Lewisburg Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He had long been an active member of the Republican Party, having served as Logan County chairman and as a member of the Election Commission Board for forty years. He was an aide to the Governor in the State Highway Department for four years during the Nunn Administration. Mr. Porter is survived by a brother, H.D. Porter and wife Jean of Bowling Green. He is also survived by four nephews: Kent Porter and wife Kathy of Allen, Texas, Rollie Porter and his wife Betty of Huntsville, Alabama, Ramsey Porter of Louisville, and Fred Thomas and wife Diane of Royal Oak, Michigan, and one niece, Reba Porter Katsampes and her husband Ernie of Prospect, Kentucky. He is further survived by seven great nephews and three great nieces, two great-great nephews and one great-great niece. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Funeral is at the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ronnie Forrest officiationg. Burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mt.
