Martha Sue Forgy Summers, age 90, passed into God’s loving hands on June 3, 2011, at the Episcopal Church Home, Louisville. “Marnie,” as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a retired educator, having started as an elementary school teacher at the one-room school at Edwards’ Station, Kentucky, and having later taught for many years at Lewisburg Elementary School, Lewisburg, Kentucky. She obtained her undergraduate teaching degree from Western Kentucky State College, Bowling Green. She later received a Master’s Degree and Rank I Certificate in Education from Western. She worked in the Personnel Office at TVA from 1962-1965 while the Paradise Steam Plant was being built. She was guidance counselor at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School, Madisonville, Kentucky from 1965 to 1980, when she returned to Lewisburg to teach elementary school until she retired in 1984. She was an accomplished pianist, who played piano at Church, Eastern Star, and for various musical groups, and taught piano for several years. She was a member of The Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Lewisburg, and the Lewisburg Chapter of Eastern Star. She was born in Lewisburg on November 15, 1920 to the late Pearl Forgy and Dora Davis Forgy, who were merchants there. She graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1938. She was married to Marion Price Pitt, a Lewisburg businessman, for many years, and they had two children, Mark Stephen (Steve) Pitt, now of Louisville, and Sherri Ann Pitt Brady, now of Independence, Kentucky. She later married Glen L. Summers, who passed away in 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Lucille Forgy Wallace, Bowling Green, and Ann Forgy, who died in infancy; her brother J.P. Forgy, Morgantown; her brother Lawrence E. Forgy, Lewisburg; nephew Freddie Forgy of Winchester and Mr. Summers. Marnie is survived by her daughter Sherri Brady (John Paul) and son Steve Pitt (Kathy); her grandchildren Susan Brady Stewart (Clay), Wake Forest, North Carolina; Leigh Brady Byers (Rob), Crestwood; Caroline Pitt Clark (Justin), Louisville; Melissa Pitt Mullins (Kris), Lexington; Emily Pitt, Louisville; and Maddie Pitt, Louisville; by her great-grandchildren Brady and Holly Stewart, Kaelin Byers, Charley and Georgia Clark, and Cooper Mullins; and by her niece, Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr, Lexington, and nephews, Larry Forgy, Lexington, Furman Forgy Wallace (Ruth Ann), Louisville, and Joe Davis Forgy (Alice), Morgantown. Her funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 7, 2011 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. 252 Green Street, Lewisburg, Kentucky, with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery, Russellville, Kentucky. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Brady, Rev. Joe Simmons and Larry Forgy. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 7, 2011 at Price Funeral Home, Inc. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mt.
