John B. Welborn

John B. Welborn, age 91 passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 5:00 AM at his home in Bowling Green, KY. He was born January 16, 1920 in Dumnor, Kentucky and married Sybil Harrison. They settled in Ohio and raised two sons, John R. and Gary D. He was preceded in death by his father, Ora. V. Welborn and mother, Chloe Joines Welborn. He was employed by the Dayton Regional Transit Authority for 32 years. He retired in 1981, and he and Sybil moved back to Kentucky. Sybil predeceased him in 1991. He later married Virginia Sutton and they lived in Bowling Green. She recently predeceased him in January 2011. J.B. served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Union General Baptist Church in Deer Lick and more recently attended First Baptist Church in Bowling Greeen, KY. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds, the Kentucky Derby, antique cars, a Hank Williams song, a good game of poker and starting a long conversation with everyone he chanced to meet. He was preceded in death by his son, John R. Welborn. He is survived by his sister, Vernonsa Adler of Rochester, Micigan; his son, Gary D. Welborn and wife Peggy of Grapevine, Texas; his beloved daughter-in-law and John R's first wife, Jean Sottoway of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his adored 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 8 great great granchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Price Funeral Home, 252 E. Green Street, PO Box 299, Lewisburg, Kentucky 42256 on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:30 PM with the Bro. Bobby Ward officiating. The family will receive friends after 1:00 PM on Saturday. Ashes will be taken to McPherson Cemetery in Todd County, KY. at a later date.
